There are two methods of  how to make and install a large custom hardwood flooring medallion:

METHOD ONE:

1. Draw a inlay design on paper

2. Assess the placement, size and proportion of the medallion on the floor. Sketch the design in pencil directly where you you’d like it to be installed.

3. Choose wood species and colors for specific parts of the medallion. Measure and cut different wood planks to make the medallion. Make all corrections necessary to fit the different parts perfectly together.

4. Cut out the main medallion shape into the floor. If necessary, install additional underpayment.

5. Nail down and glue down every part of the design into the floor.

6. Sand, patch, buff, and apply several coats of protective floor finish to the entire room where the medallion is installed. This will level and match the new wood with the existing flooring.
